West Virginia preview (Thanks Billy G!) West Virgina comes into this match not as strong as they have been in the past. They have a terrific new coach in the great Sammie Henson so watch that program take off. They lost their opening dual meet to Arizona State 19-13 and got a 5th place finish at the Navy Classic over the weekend. Michael Morales won the tourney and is a Jersey kid I believe. That should be a great match between Ashnault and him. Moisey got 3rd at 125, Scheffel got 4th and Dekrone and Smith got 5th.

Lineups:
125 McCabe vs Zeke Moisey Fr
133 DelVecchio vs Cory Stainbrook So
141 Ashnault vs Mike Morales Sr
149 Ken Theobold vs Jamess Dekrone R-So
157 Perrotti vs Roman Perryman Sr
167 Orr vs Tim Wheeling Jr
174 Backukas vs Ross Renzi Jr
184 Parfumi or Hrymack vs Bubba Scheffel Jr
197 Normandia or Pafumi vs Jake Smith So
285 Bernard vs Viscarrondo Jr

125: McCabe vs Zeke Moisey - Moisey gets takedown, McCabe out. McCabe deep in single, doesnt protect and via deep funk for Moisey, McCabe take down on edge. Moisey sets in legs and rides, up 4-1 now.

McCabe ridden out. 4-1 in first, giving up 1:50 riding. In second, McCabe out and now 4-2. McCabe needs next points, but Moisey crushing McCabe on feet. Gets another takedown. 6-2.

McCabe out, then Moisey with another takedown. So now 8-3, plus one. McCabe hanging on top ride and loses 9-3
RU 0 - WVU 3

133: Scott Delvecchio vs Cory Stainbrook - Scott gets quick takedown and releases. 2-1. After a bit of standup, Scott gets another single leg from standing to takedown. Stainbrook gets another escape so 4-2 with 30 sec left, Stainbrook gets stalling at end of first. 4-2 now, WVU goes down to start second period.

Stainbrook gets out. 4-3 now. Scott gets takedown and it is 6--3 with Scott Delvecchio on top. 53 seconds into period and clock malfunctions. Maybe 47 seconds riding?

Delvecchio up 6-4 with 1:09 at end of second period. DelVecchio starts down, so it will be a 6-4 match. Scott gets out and 7-4 now. Scott is playing defense via offense with shots. Stainbrook likes funk. Scott looks tired. holding on with 12 sec. He wins 7-4
RU 3 WVU 3

141 Ashnault #16 vs Mike Morales (Sr - Brick, NJ) lots of handfighting in first period until AA gets first takedown with 15 sec left. AA up 2-0, starts down in second period

Morales rides, AA out after 30 seconds. AA up 3-0. AA has heavy hands and making Donny Pritzlaff proud. AA wrestles a very mature style without opening flanks. AA on top to start 3rd and Morales great switch, out. now 3-1. WVU coach Sam Henson non-stop baby crying at refs. AA gets another takedown and then Morales escapes. 5-2 lead now.
then Morales in very deep, almost two points, AA scrambles and somehow comes up with it. Up 7-3 and that is how it ends.
RU 6 WVU 3

For those not watching, Morales was very frustrated and looked like he was trying to start a fight as time expired.

Thanks for the thanks guys!!!

149: Theobold versus Dekrone (r-So) - Theo gets takedown about 2:20 in and rides out. up 2-1 Theo down to start 2nd. Theo out after about 10 sec. Theo walking in and more aggressive. Has to careful not to be timed, which just happened! DeKrone gets takedown but Theo rolls and reverses, throwing in legs. Theo up 5-2 and riding point in right now. Theo has gotten decent at legs and understanding his balance points. Theo rides out period.
DeKrone starts 3rd in neutral. needs 3 takedowns due to riding. curious decision

Theo stays aggressive. Perhaps a little too agressive and tkaes page from Cornell U tossing Dekrone a little heavy out o f bounds. Theo wins 7-3. He is not a violent fellow and goes over to shake Dekrone's hand.

RU 9 - WVU 3

Way to paint the picture Josh and Obrats !! Interesting tidbit about Morales. Sounds like Theo has improved A LOT !

157 Perrotti vs Roman Perryman (Sr) Perryman is unranked. Perrotti in classic kind-of-wild start, but gets taken down. Gets reversal and now AP is on top. AP gets 2 tilt off of high tilt. Perryman escape. so now AP leads 4-3 at end of first with a bit of riding. Perryman cuts him to start 2nd. AP up 5-3. Perryman must believe in standing versus AP. they are similar very muscular styles.

AP gets takedown (ankle pick) with 20 sec left in second. AP up 7-3, Perryman starts down in 3rd. 47 sec riding for AP.
Perryman out, so 7-4 ,with 1:03 riding. only 42 sec left....And that is how AP wins. 8-4

167 Orr vs Tim Wheeling Jr (Erie, Pa) reasonably active first period, but more from WVU so Orr gets stalling warning about 2 min in. Or seems tentative on his feet. Wheeling again in on shot and ORr again warned, so he loses a point. 1-0 WVU at end of one. Orr getting ridden in second period, classic good pennsylvania ride. Orr cant solve it for 1:20 so far.

(This ref is goofy and not in control, then too quick to make a call.)

Orr gets nice shot, does not convert. Seems gassed. Wheeling up 1:26 in riding. Orr starts 3rd on top. Orr holds for 23 sec but needed 4 more sec. Orr needs a takedown. 1 minute to go. Orr gets 2 points.no riding time now. lets him up. 3-3 now.
All down to takedown!!!

Orr gets takedown with 5 sec left!! up 5-3. Nice gut out Ethan Orr!!!
RU 15 - WVU 3

174: Bakuckas vs Ross Renzi (Jr) - active first period...Phil more agressive, then finally gets single leg into takedown. rides out for a minute. Bakuckas on bottom for 2nd period. gets superfast escape to takedown. now up 5-0 plus riding building with 1:34 riding time Phil just looks more muscular. Dominating ride on top, but not building points. Second stall warning = 1 point, so Phil up 6-0. Neutral to start the 3rd.

Phil is looking for 2 points to major, but needs to be careful with a minute to go. Get the win. Another stall gets him the point for the major. Very mature win.
RU 19 - WVU 3

184: Pafumi vs Bubba Scheffel (Jr) Position jockying but no score until end of first with Scheffel getting takedown in last 10 sec. Scheffel takes down to start second. Quick escape. Eventually Scheffel gets takedown off of Pafumi shot. Pafumi is just too small versus Scheffel. Pafumi pinned in 3rd period.

I think Pafumi is really a 174 pounder. But he has a lot of heart & is doing a valuable job keeping these matches close.

Oklahoma Note: Goodale sending in Hrymack at 184 and his getting a pin makes a massive difference in that match.
RU 19 - WVU 9

A little vent here. If Hrymack is going to be our starting 184 pounder when Camp joins the lineup why did he not wrestle the 184 pounder? He needs to get matches with some better guys at the weight he is going to wrestle.

197: Hrymack vs Jake Smith (So) Hrymack up 2-0 with riding, then Smith escapes, gets takedown and two backs.. really? Smith up 5-2 now at end of second. I think Hrymack should have wrestled 184. Trade wins.
Hrymack is so tall. he has to get out on bottom. cant believe he gives up legs on bottom.

OBrats...you are right. this is a coaching mistake. And Hrymack needs to learn legs, defense and offense.

Smith gets another takedown. now up 7-3, plus riding. They are neutral. Hrymack does not use his lengths at all. His legs are huge targets. He needs to stay at 184. Hrymack gives up the major. This was really bad match for him.
Now if Bernard pinned again, we lose tiebreaker 19-19 due to their two pins.

285: Bernard versus AJ Vizcarrando (Jr - Wyoming Sem.) Sumo match in first period. No score. WVU defers and Bernard takes neutral (Goodale screaming 'not down'). More Sumo.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz no action. 0 points or shots after 5 minutes. Then WVU on bottom, scores a point with an escape. (Bernard holds him for a solid 2 seconds!!)

Per the RU wrestling twitter Rutgers will win the match due to the 6 wins even if the final is 19-19

Vizcarrando wins 1-0. yuck.

RU 19 - WVU 16

**I hope Hrymack stays at 184 regardless of opponent going forward.

criteria for Dual meet ties:
Rule # 3.15 Breaking Ties in Dual Meets and Team-Advancement Tournaments[/B]
When two teams finish in a tie in a dual meet or a team-advancement tournament, the following criteria shall be applied to determine a winner:
3.15.1 Greater number of victories. [/B]Note: Forfeits, defaults and disqualifications count toward total number of victories[/I].
3.15.2 Combined total number of falls, forfeits, defaults and disqualifications.
[/B]3.15.3 Total match points scored only from decisions, major decisions and technical falls.
[/B]3.15.4 First takedown.

So I was incorrect, but i think it was still a mistake to have Hrymack at 197. It will kill his tournament seeding.
