OT: NJ playing catch up in the Craft Beer business

The IPA bubble cannot end soon enough for me.

This is how I feel about IPAs...
giphy.gif
Stopped at a craft beer bar last week and of the 27 craft beers on tap there were 11 IPA’s.

I asked the manager about this and he said that all 11 IPA’s are big sellers and that customers want an even wider range of them. West Coast, Northeast, unfiltered, fruity, DIPA, high IBU, etc. The demand for IPA’s actually seems to be growing.

I agree about Merlot, but I actually like IPAs. You have to get the right ones that don't make them over bitter or dank though. Give me a beer list with a lot of different IPA types and some Belgians and I'm good. I don't love Sours or Stoudts though, which a ton of people like. To each his own.

Interesting that Maine has same number of breweries as NJ. Much bigger customer base in NJ.

5 years ago FL had 1-2 dozen breweries. Now it’s 364 and growing.

Somehow they stayed in business thru Covid.

Milford's legendary Ship Inn is gone, but new brewery emerges to take its place

Today, craft breweries and brewpubs can be found anywhere in New Jersey.

But before it all, there was the Ship Inn – the Garden State’s first post-Prohibition brewery and brewpub, unexpectedly located inside a Milford Victorian home.

For something a little different try Burnt Mills in Bedminster. Like a good cider now and then and they have a great space on 206.
i drive by this often, it gets jammed on Thursday/Fridays when weather is nice. nice looking outside seating area.

not having food hurts these places. i understand the food trucks come in, but it's not guaranteed they are there when you go. i wanted to try River Horse in Ewing this past weekend when down there for softball with my daughter but was a dinner time thing for her.

Spent many afternoons at The Ship going back about 15-20 years ago. Great to see/hear it being brought back to life by these new owners as a modern gastropub/brewery with some traditional twists and expanded beer offerings. Definitely sounds like a labor of love for them. Will have to make it a priority to check out when I'm up in those parts sometime in the future.

Hill Street Honey American Ale

Hill Street Honey American Ale possesses the nice golden color of a classic ale. While starting out as a hybrid American Pale-Amber ale, over time and tweaking it hass rounded out to fall more into the blonde ale family, a little hop forward with a pleasantly smooth finish that will let you keep enjoying them as you relax. Hill Street Honey’s bitterness is complimented by a whole bunch of New Jersey harvested honey that we add in during key parts of the brewing process.
These separately timed additions help spread out and layer the honey sweetness and citrus aromas throughout the brew thanks to the honey from the orange blossom. All of this complemented with smooth, slight biscuit flavors from the several types of grains we add in there. All this is brewed up then the magic of yeast takes over and we exclusively use yeast from Jersey’s own yeast company that just helps meld all of the flavors together into a wonderful American Ale.
It is a simple, delicious anytime-of-year session beer, yet it has a whole bunch of complex layers to it if one breaks it down. Great citrus and floral aromas, smooth and creamy head and mouthfeel, and a nice finish of citrus in the aftertaste. It’s good.
This is our flagship and we are proud to brew it and we hope you enjoy it and share it with all of your family and friends and have fun, and experience your beer.
  • ABV: Approx. 4.85%
  • SRM: 6.8
  • IBU: 23.77

N.J. brewery finally opens its doors after a 14-month delay

(Stop at Hot Dog Johnnie's and head over lol)

The doubt and uneasiness turned into pure elation on a recent Saturday. After all the uncertainty, Buttzville Brewing Co. opened its doors to the public in the heart of Washington.

“This is exactly what I wanted to do,” said Dave. “I want to help the community. I want to bring good beer, a good time, a good atmosphere.”

Went to Alternate Ending in Aberdeen and Seven Sons in Howell last week. Seven Sons was IPA heavy which many like but I prefer malty beers. The atmosphere was meh and there didn't appear to be food. Alternate Ending on the other hand had a great atmosphere and exceptional food. Beer was pretty solid. Looking forward to Ross opening up in Port Monmouth

Brick Farm Tavern (Troon) is having its second Beer Fest October 3rd. I bought tickets back when it was supposed to happen pre-COVID. I can't use them. I have 6 available if anyone is interested, message me or leave your contact info. Nice lineup of NJ breweries.

I went there one time and it was unlike any other brewery/bar experience I've ever had. My buddy and I were the only people in the place not wearing some sort of business casual attire. They also only had one Troon beer on tap, so we got that one beer and then left. Is it always like that or did we just go on a weird day?

It can be a little bit on the stuffy side. The beer is excellent and the food isn’t far behind so it’s an occasional stop for me. Quite a different crowd at the first beer fest though.

Sadly I will be out of the country but do want to get there this fall.

Good craft beer 4 pack prices have jumped the shark. Over 20 bucks for a good IPA is just stupid. 2 years ago they were 13-18 bucks depending on the brewery.

Back to drinking Hofbrau lol

Well Hofbrau is an excellent choice but prices haven't gone up in craft beer that much. Try a new store.

Brick Farm is a restaurant not a tap room. Wonder if Troon ever tries to scale up or just keep up with the small batch insanely good stuff. They are my favorite in the state.

Went to Old Old Hights Brewing Co in Hightstown the other night. Comfortable outdoor seating and decent beers. It appears Ross Brewing Co in Port Monmouth is still a few months from opening up unfortunately. I just wish the pendulum would swing back toward malty, smooth dunkels and ales and away from hoppy IPAs among the craft beer scene

First New Jersey brewery and hop farm opens in Readington

Beer fans across the Garden State can finally gaze across fields of hops while tasting the beer made from them.

Readington Brewery and Hop Farm, one of the largest hop farms in New Jersey, opened a beer production facility and tasting room on Nov. 26, making it New Jersey's first brewery on a hop farm.
