I think you misunderstood my post. Of course a fastball doesn’t rise.A moment's thought will persuade you that a fastball does not rise. The pitcher is standing on top of a mound (an elevated surface by definition) and is throwing the ball with his arm above his full height. The ball must descend in order to be even at the top of the strike zone.n The "hop" on a fastball is the fact that the ball sinks less than one would think from the path of the ball. In other words, every fastball sinks, but a good fastball will sink less than the hitter will expect. I believe, but am not totally sure that the backspin a good pitcher places on the ball is responsible for the ball sinking less than expected.
"The Sterling Partners and Steve Cohen are negotiating an agreement in which Steve Cohen would increase his investment in the New York Mets," the Mets said in a statement. "As part of that agreement, Fred Wilpon will remain in the role of the Control Person and CEO for five years and Jeff Wilpon will remain in his role of Chief Operating Officer for the 5 year period as well.
"Steve Cohen will continue as CEO and President of Point72 Asset Management and his stake in the Mets will continue to be managed by his family office, Cohen Private Ventures."
Great, the guys who couldn't do right by the Mets because they were too poor because they got ripped off by a Wall Street crook sell the team to a guy who made his money as a Wall Street crook. Makes it easy to root for Rutgers.
Agree on the Wilpons! And I never heard of the new guy until today. But he doesn't look like someone I'll feel good about lining the pockets of with my $12 beer at Citi Field. For clarification, I’m just cheering on a long-overdue farewell to the Wilpons. I know nothing about this guy.
And I'll be dead in 5 years so whoopie damm dooWilpons will stay in control of running day to day team for next 5 years though
You're not suggesting that the Mets try to buy a championship, are you ?Per Joel Sherman:
- Steve Cohen is worth $13.5 Billion.
- He grew up a passionate Mets fan.
- Will spend and payroll will be in Yankees; Red Sox and Dodgers territory.
- Thank goodness for Saul Katz' kids who want nothing to do with Doofus Jeff Wilpon and hence succession plan is to divest.
Along with Schiano, good times ahead.....:)
5 more years of fun!Wilpons will stay in control of running day to day team for next 5 years though
A rather random comment, but since you brought it up... Don't know how old you are, but there have been only six player-managers in the last 60 years, and none in the last 30. The last player-manager was Pete Rose, who was actually a player-manager-gambler, so that was the end of that. Our Mets of course had Joe Torre, who in 1977 served as player-manager for 18 days. However, he did not believe he could do justice to both roles. Therefore, he only took two at-bats before retiring as a player at age 37.I miss the days of the player manager.
I'll admit that was a good one...:)You're not suggesting that the Mets try to buy a championship, are you ?
This Cohen guy can't be all bad, taken from a Newsday article,"His family's charitable arm, the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Foundation, has donated to a variety of health-related philanthropies. In one high profile gift on Long Island, the foundation donated $50 million, prompting the former Schneider Children's Hospital in New Hyde Park to be renamed the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York".
I just want the Mets to become an all around organization like the Tampa Rays with an NYC budget.I am all for this Cohen guy taking control. Hope the Wilpons titles for the next 5 years are just titles and they stay the F away.
I actually hope Cohen makes the Met's the bad boys of the league again as they were in the 80's minus the coke. lol
A Cohen inspired off season may look like this
Sign Strasburg(I don't think Cole would sign here no matter what) make moves even if it means Davis/smith and some prospects for Marte and Hader, sign Rendon...I may even try to get a Roark or Keuchel for depth, sign Thor to an extention.
I doubt any of it happens but it would be fun to have an owner who wants to play like a big boy
Let's hope BVW dont trade him away for Jacoby Elsbury
Sounds like this guy is shady. The SEC banned him from investing other people's money due to financial violations. Hmm.....I just want the Mets to become an all around organization like the Tampa Rays with an NYC budget.
Sounds like same old Mets- no effort for a MarteThe Houston Astros announced Thursday that they traded outfielder Jake Marisnick to the New York Mets for prospects Blake Taylor and Kenedy Corona.
Marisnick turns 29 in March, is a RHH center fielder with solid defensive numbers (+5 DRS, sprint speed in 95th percentile & 86th percentile in Outs Above Average), who has some pop & speed.
If they got Marisnick to replace Lagares in the role of 4th or 5th OF, then I like. If they got him with the expectation that he's their starting CF, then I don't like.
