At the Devils quiet draft we have our first selection, at pick 59 we took RW Lenni Hameenaho. He is listed at 6ft. 1 in. 185lbs.
If it all comes together think Jay Pandolfo. Seems like a good 2-way middle 6 forward. However his skating needs work, which really concerns me given our system.
I wouldn't go that high a %. This guy outscored (sp.) Kotomemi in that league. The example was because I see him as 3rd line 2-way player. The shot is good, the skating needs work. Penalty kill specialist.Pando was a sniper in college

Ya, don't love drafting a guy with skating concerns. We are a fast team in a league that keeps getting faster. At the Devils quiet draft we have our first selection, at pick 59 we took RW Lenni Hameenaho. He is listed at 6ft. 1 in. 185lbs.

LOL, maybe if he was 6ft 5in 250 pounds.Ya, don't love drafting a guy with skating concerns. We are a fast team in a league that keeps getting faster.
Hopefully the concerns are overblown. His production on a bad Liiga team look pretty decent.
Ive seen anywhere from 5'11" to 6'1". I don't need 6'5" but 6'1" def sounds better then 5'11".LOL, maybe if he was 6ft 5in 250 pounds.

With our system I see him struggling like Holtz and think he eventually gets traded.
After the goalie run, I'm surprised we didn't take a Center.

Right. The Squirls guy is highly skilled but too small. Listed as 6 160, he looks like 5 10 130. Lately they have gotten away from the lollipop guild and drafted OK.It did with Connor Chatham

The window is wide open for the devils and they have the ability to add a top 3 goalie today. I’d give him 7 x 7 if I had to. All I hear is the cap and how 3 years from now luke and nemec gonna need new deals . Those guys have played less than 5 games combined . We don’t even know their capabilities. Go win this season and compete for the next 3. That’s all that mattersBut for how long? Anything longer then 4 years is asking for trouble.
Time will tell if he's too small. Or too slow, or not skilled enough. Or if he's none of those things and turns into a good NHL player.Right. The Squirls guy is highly skilled but too small. Nah the entirety of the contract matters. We saw first hand how paying a long term contract to an older goalie can handcuff a team. That contract is still effecting our cap space. And he was younger at the time of signing that deal then Helle will be.The window is wide open for the devils and they have the ability to add a top 3 goalie today. I’d give him 7 x 7 if I had to. The teams that have struggled recently in the East are all improving, but I think Washington, Pittsburgh, Boston and Tampa don’t have much time left where they are a factor.Subpar draft for the Devils, think we could have done better with our 2nd round pick.
Flyers kicked ass, had a gift fall to them at #7.
They need to break up the Metropolitan because it's getting ridiculous.
Ya, and as we saw with Dev's, rebuilds for teams like the Flyers may take longer then expected. The teams that have struggled recently in the East are all improving, but I think Washington, Pittsburgh, Boston and Tampa don’t have much time left where they are a factor.
True, with Sqirels it's his weight. While listed at 160, his profile at the draft, looked like 130. The Devils Head Scout kept saying in interviews, he needs strength.Time will tell if he's too small. Or too slow, or not skilled enough. Or if he's none of those things and turns into a good NHL player.
And he's the only one of the group who could be considered small, and he's 6'.

As always when I feel negative, I hope I'm wrong. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if no one in this draft class plays for the Devils. Oh and I hate typing that.
I hope I'm wrong. The Devils seem happy, I'm not. Not even a taker for Graves, it all bums me out.Terrible draft overall for NJD
The Minnesota kid maybe a steal though
You don't like the monster d-men drafted late?True, with Sqirels it's his weight. While listed at 160, his profile at the draft, looked like 130. The Devils Head Scout kept saying in interviews, he needs strength.

I do like that late pick. Again I hope I'm wrong. I just believe that there were some better prospects in rounds 2 and 4.You don't like the monster d-men drafted late?
And I like the idea of a talented kid putting on weight and getting stronger moreso then a big strong untalented kid developing skills.
Squires I think is probably more about if his skating is good enough.
We were handcuffed bc Cory’s first 3 years were in front of terrible teams and Lou kept trying to patch holes when he should have burned it down and started the rebuild . He should have never traded for him in the first place . Good goalie on a bad team . Now we have a great team and a so-so goaltending with a chance to get a stud . 2 totally different scenariosNah the entirety of the contract matters. The potential of a 30 something year old goalie breaking down is no different. We were handcuffed bc Cory’s first 3 years were in front of terrible teams and Lou kept trying to patch holes when he should have burned it down and started the rebuild . If the Jets don't get delusional after the Kings fleecing this could work. Getting Hellebucyk might get us the Cup this year. If reports are true about him wanting to be a Devil, he may accept a 3 to 5 year deal. Perhaps Fitz could even front load the contract, without the NHL screwing us ala Kovy.
There has been a gap between reported contract wants, and what the contract turns out to be. With Schmid, Daws, and Brennan we will be fine, even if he doesn't resign.
I've been hard on Fitz in the past, but I think he makes it work. As long as the Jets are responsible. Something like a '24 1st round pick and 3rd round pick, Vanacek, and Russian prospect Arseni Gritsyuk for Connor Hellebucyk.
Just a sample trade. I would like to keep that Russian, but you have to give quality to get quality, and I want to keep the H's, Hughes', and Hischier. As well as Mercer, Nemec, and Bahl, so I decided on that Russian.Keep that Russian
The potential to win a cup or 2 with Helle in net the next 3-4 years far out weighs any potential injury risk . They are already a top 3 team . With Helle in net they are the sure fire favoriteThe potential of a 30 something year old goalie breaking down is no
Get him here as a one year rental for now bc it would cost less . Vanecek , future first and a prospect . Colorado did it with Kuemper and it worked out pretty well for them.If the Jets don't get delusional after the Kings fleecing this could work. Getting Hellebucyk might get us the Cup this year. Where did you hear that?Devils and Avs are supposedly on the top of Tyler Bertuzzi’s list. He recently became a UFA.
