OT: Another Minor/Moderate,Snow Event on Friday (1/19); Still Some Uncertainty

Well, if you like snow and you live at least a few miles S of 78 you've been very lucky today, as it's likely that people N of 78 are well under an inch of snow looking at the radar, which seems to not have gone N of 78 much at all today, except for about an hour or so where bands shot up to NENJ/NYC (and the south shore of LI has done ok). This current radar snap shot seems like it hasn't changed much for hours. I'm sure someone will post a video at some point.

Just embarrassing to have a state of emergency where the snow is not sticking to major or even regular roads

Public not interested in grassy surface accumulations

The bigger story will be the major freeze tonight with black ice well into tomorrow
It's sticking to roads in South Brunswick. We have been plowed twice so far. I just drove a bit, the main roads like Rt 1 and Rt 27 are fine. Secondary roads not too good

2 inches in Philadelphia, started at 6:30, so not impressive. The bullseye has moved to the East. East of 295 to the interior of the Shore counties looks like it's going to get the most. The major roads appear great so far
As of 1:45 pm...and folks on the weather boards reporting 3" in spots. Perhaps you need a new ruler, lol.

..Philadelphia County...
Philadelphia International A 2.9 in 0100 PM 01/19 ASOS
1 SE Point Breeze 2.8 in 0127 PM 01/19 Trained Spotter
Shawmont 2.4 in 1050 AM 01/19 Trained Spotter

At my office in downtown Summit, this storm has been a total nothing. Light flurries most of the day, but absolutely nothing sticking to the roads, sidewalks or parking lots looking out my window. It's really just wet. Going to go out for a walk now, but looks like it's nothing by nothing.

2 inches in Belle Mead but already compacting

You can see on radar dry air continues to eat away through northern NJ and that will continue to nibble at the western and northern fringes of central jersey as the day wears on

As of 1:30 pm, we're up to 2.3", so only 0.3" the last hour, but we're now within 1" of my early prediction, which I wouldn't have thought would happen just 4 hours ago. Snowing more lightly now and the radar isn't as impressive, so we might only get another 1/2" or so if these bands don't start building back in. Still 29F.
As of 2:00 pm, we're up to 2.5", so 0.4"/hr rate the last 30 min. Snowing moderately, but it looks like this might be our last decent band over the next 30-45 minutes. 3" is possible, but unlikely. Still 29F - temp has barely budged.

With the lighter intensity the last hour or so, the busy county road in front of our house which was treated yesterday has lost most of its snow cover, but the untreated side streets are still all snow covered.

Philadelphia International Airport is almost 11
miles away.
Shawmont is 12 miles.
I think you need a map! Lol
BTW you still haven't answered the question.

I saw from your photo that you are near Tommy's pond. Is that a good sled hill for my 7 yo? We haven't sledded yet since moving to Metuchen

Couple of pics of the pond across the street and the throng of sledders...looks like fun - trying to convince my 29-year old son to go sledding tomorrow...

Absolutely!! I spent countless days sledding there with our son and his friends - not sure if you can tell from the pic, but there must be 75 kids over there right now. I was the crazy dad riding down with them on the bottom of a 4-person "sandwich," and also taught them all how to stand on their sleds or little snowboards and go down the hill that way. Got a few dirty looks over the years from the helicopter moms not happy when their little kids started emulating us. Send me an IM if you go and I'll pop over if I'm around.

no rain at all, it could be more than an inch, i just haven't ventured outside yet. Will be doing that at 3:30 when I go see my newish grandson!
Wow, congrats!! The daughter you brought to the game with us that one time? If so, send along my best for the whole family. We're kind of hoping our son and his GF (living together) might not be that far away from that...

As of 2:30 pm we hit 2.7", but the snow has gone to light intensity since about 2:25 pm, so not sure if we can squeeze out another 0.3" to get to 3". Still 29F.

Always one in the crowd to spoil things.

My experience is similar to @newell138 . Will get out there with a tape measure, but guessing at most 2" in Wall on Brick border. No rain, but seems like we may be able to call the 3-6 (or was it 3-5"?) a little bust. Not that there is anything wrong with a little bust.

Driving to central Maryland tomorrow at 6am, what’s a better bet for commute, Delaware memorial bridge or Philly?

I'm stunned - thought you guys would easily get 4-5", although my guess is we might've had similar amounts of snow mass/liquid equivalent, but I'm guessing our ratio is 15-20:1, whereas you've been around 31-32F most of the day vs. our 29F and that warmth may have been enough for you to have more moisture in your snow and more compaction.

Delaware Memorial bridge. They are doing construction on 95 South before Wilmington and close 95 South on weekends. Whether they do that with this weather I have no idea.

We are at 6" in Cherry hill (includes some left over from earlier in the week). Still coming down but not as hard as it was an hour ago.

You were in the heaviest band of the dark blue on 6ABC radar for most of time. Radar seems like your are in much lighter stuff now.

About 2.5" now and still coming down at a moderate clip. Our residential road with patchy accumulation. Raritan Twp does a great job on residential roads, even our low traffic cul-de-sac. Residual salt still on roads.
We were up to 2.75” last I checked, we moved here summer of 2022 so this is really our first glimpse of the township’s snow removal and so far so good.

That’s the thing with most trolls, like BAC. They sure love dishing it out, like he’s been with his years of mocking you. But when someone shines the light on them, they turn into snowflakes with bunched up panties.

He’s weeping because he thinks that you, the object of his really weird obsession, laughed with someone who mocked him.
i pretty much nailed this event for most of nj...so great

1-4 with some patches of higher in the banding that was highly unpredictable and less than 1 up in parts of nw nj

and the lack of snowfall on treated surfaces even in the hardest hit areas makes it a minor event
