OT: Potential Significant to Major Winter Storm Saturday, 1/29/22 (but high uncertainty)

We got what looks to be a nice bonus band that was really thin and just happened to come right over us (see pic - Edison, by 287/TPK) from about 7:40 until 8:20 as per the pic and it put down our first 1/2" as of about 8:25 pm. Everything covered, including roads, as I was just out to get takeout (Fire and Flavor - yum!). 31F.

As of 9 pm, we only picked up another 1/8" since 8:30 pm, as the snow let up, meaning we have 5/8". However, the radar is looking great and intensity just picked up and it's coming down nicely. Also, so far the snow that's falling is easily 15-20:1 snow to liquid, with very nicely formed dendrites making a nice fluffy snow. Not sure how long that will last, but if we can retain this kind of crystal growth in the DGZ once the precip gets heavier, we could pile up some snow quickly during the first half of the night - one of the pros on 33 said he thought we'd retain good lift and snow growth through the first half of the storm. Down to 30F.

A fellow Canuck! I grew up in the west end of NP. I remember a big snow in '76 or so. I rode our snow machine down Rockview Ave way over to Watchung Ave, over the Rt 22 overpass to visit a friend. I think I was the only one on the road that morning.
What class? I was 1986 but I have six older brothers and sisters, so someone probably graduated with you.

I’ll try this one again.

@RU848789 or any other weather expert

I need to make a call on sweet 16 party for daughter and debating with wife. Your best guess at this stage for accumulation of snow and projected stop of precipitation for Eastern Bergen County - Dumont/Bergenfield/Englewood area would be extremely appreciated
You'll have to get in touch with all your vendors, unless the venue does that... if this is some kind of big event type party. but doing without some vendors who cannot make it would be understood by guests... though putting guests through the same questions you have right now... that's a tough call.

Good luck. Wouldn't want to be in your shoes. Make teh Sweet 16 girl part of the decision after laying out all the positives and negatives... maybe she can call up key guests to get a feeling from them.. even if YOU can make it happen.. will the guests show up?

As of about 9:35 pm, we're up to 1" and it's coming down close to moderately at 30F. Didn't expect to have an inch until 11-12, so feels like we're ahead of schedule. One of my favorite mets (Tomer Burg) just said he thought the storm might overperform for Mercer/Middlesex/Union and eastward...

That's why he's your favorite.

Yes! Stay East Young Storm. That southern part of Somerset County is close enough to Mercer to get hit with a ton as it moves east too.

It's been snowing light but consistent here near Ringoes for a few hours now. An inch down. But trucks dumping enough salt my well water driven ice maker won't be working for a week.

Been snowing light since about 7pm just started picking up over the last half hour. About and inch on grass, just starting to stick on the roadway… Bayville NJ

We've had consistent light snow from about 8 p.m. in Newark. But the accumulation has stayed the same for a few hours. Light dusting in surfaces but nothing to note on salted roadways.

Starting to pick up a bit now but nothing crazy so far.

Starting to see the wind pick up a bit in Hamilton. Tree branches starting to sway. Steady snow since 7ish (ooh, that alliteration doe). Small flakes.

Just went for a nice walk - it's spectacular out there - gorgeous dendrites sparkling under the lights outside! We're up to 1.5" as of 10:35, so 1/2" the last hour and well ahead of scheudule (1" by 1 am predicted by the NWS). Temp down to 30F. Radar looking good and finally looking good for our friends out in Hunterdon/Mercer/Somerset Counties, as I know all of you guys want your snow too.

Based on Radar, when do see it filling in for Essex County #s? Seeing it pick up a bit. Nothing crazy yet.

I know I'm a pain in the ass every year haha. But I suppose I'm a bit of a snow lover haha.

Maybe an inch in South Brunswick. Not snowing very hard.

Should be pouring snow now, no?
Its wierd over here. There always seems to be a Ridgeline between the Amwell Valley and Flemington. My guess is the Sourland mountains across the south of the valley and the ridge north of Flemington.
We often watch the storms miss us north or them south. Cause it is coming down good here but I'm also on Rocktown Hill. Sometimes raining at bottom while snowing up here. Fun.
